Musang King (original name: Raja Kunyit) is probably one of our national treasures, not many would argue its position as the pinnacle of durian family.
Even though Musang King is originated from Kelantan, Raub is considered as the home of Musang King, supplying tons and tons of durian not only to the whole Malaysia but also exporting to countries like China.
It is a great pleasure for us to visit one of the durian farms located at Raub, we took a bumpy 15 minutes ride to the hilltop by Toyota Hilux, which was fun for the kids! It was amazing to see so many Musang Kings attached to the trees, waiting for the right time to drop.
Here are some tips from the durian farm owner on how to pick & consume Musang King:
- Size doesn’t matter, sometimes smaller Musang King tastes better!
- Consume the durian a day after it drops from the tree for the best taste
- Shake the durian and feel the flesh, solid movements if fresh, waterish otherwise
- Avoid heat (e.g. in the car) and keep the durian in room temperature before consuming
